How can you fix the Xbox 360 ” Red Ring of Death ” without telling Microsoft about it?

I don’t actually have a Xbox 360 but I just want to know how to fix this because if one day I do get one, i’ll now how to cure my Xbox 360. If this is impossible, then I’m sad!
I heard if you send your game system to Microsoft it takes about a month to get it back. Sometimes they don’t even fix it good. Please help me find out! THANK-YOU!

you can try the towel trick which usually makes it work for about a week or longer,
go here for more info
try at your own risk

but, they fix it for free, so rather than trying to fix it yourself, and taking the risk of doing more damage, why not just wait?

Unless you voided your warranty I would just call the xbox 1800 number. They fix for free you get it back in like 3 weeks. Now if you voided your warrant by flashing it or something else or if your warranty is just expired you can go one of two ways. Towel trick which in my experince lasted 1 day and then I couldnt get it to stay on for 2 min. For towel trick just go to ummm you can also go to a message board at 360mods.net or xboxscene.com and they might be able to help you either way its gonna be diffucult unless you have a warranty.

Don’t use the towel trick. It only does more damage. The reasoning behind the towel trick is that if the heat is the source that causes the solder to melt and the cables to disconnect, then by overheating the 360, it will cause the solder to melt again and glue the cables back together. Doesn’t that sound stupid? By causing an extreme overheat, you could be melting other parts of the 360.
Once you get the ring of death, might as well just call MS and get it repaired. It’s free. Why try to do it yourself and possibly void the warranty or destroy your 360? So what if it’s gone for a month. Don’t you have other things that you can do while the 360 is getting repaired?

wrap it up in towels and turn it on leave it on for 15 min.( make it nice and toasty for the xbox) and let it sit for a while and its fixed (only for little while tho)
