Technically challenged girl needs help hooking up her Xbox 360 and my cable box to surround sound?
March 19th, 2008 | by xboxrepair |ButterflyBecoming asked:
I’m running into a problem with my surround sound. There only seems to be one A/V (red, white) hookup on my Panasonic surround sound, and I currently have my Scientific Atlanta HD box hooked-up through that. I just bought an Xbox 360, and now I can’t figure out how to hook both electronics through the receiver. Are there any kind of converters out there that I can buy or is there a special way that I can wire everything. I still have the red, green, and blue composite hook-ups open on the surround sound receiver, any ideas?

You could get a couple “Y” adapters from wal-mart or radio shack. RCA “Y” Adapters. You will need two, one for the red Audio jack and one for the white one.
You plug the Y adapters into the ports on your Panasonic, then you can connect both your TV and Xbox to it. Theoretically, you would even be able to use both the xbox and tv at the same time, of course that would sound crazy!

Buy a av switcher, these can go from cheep to very pricey. The cheaper ones you just need to push a button on it to change sources. Your xbox and cable box will hook up to it and then it will hook into your receiver. If your tv has blue green and red component connection on it use it that will give you a better picture then the yellow wire. Also look to see if your receiver has and digital audio connections like optical aka toslink and coaxial (spdif) that will give you digital surround.

STOP!!
All the above will work!! But are not the best ideas.
So, please try this first!!
Most TVs have multiple in and out puts!!
Plug cable box audio and video into input 1 of TV.
Plug Xbox into the the other audio and video input 2 of TV!
Plug the TV AUDIO out put into the Home theater in a Box’s input!!
THAT’S it YOUR DONE!!
If your TV dose not have Multiple inputs!!
Buy a NEW receiver for about $200. It will be better than the one you have. Moreover it will work with more things. like TV, Ipod, DVD, Cable and Xbox!!!

Xbox 360 has an optical out. Most receivers have optical connection. Just go get yourself an optical cable. You don’t need to change anything on your receiver.
Good luck.
